TAMPA - A Bahamian national was sentenced in a Tampa federal courtroom today to concurrent sentences of 169 months in prison on two indictments involving cocaine trafficking, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Brendon Glinton, formerly with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, had been found guilty after two jury trials on separate cocaine trafficking charges.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Web site lists his name as Brenden Glinton.
"At the first trial, it was shown that Glinton and other Bahamian nationals were involved in smuggling more than 100 kilograms of cocaine from the Bahamas to the United States aboard public aircraft and transporting it to the Tarpon Springs area for distribution," a U.S. Attorney's Office news release states. "The smuggling occurred as far back as 2000."
In the second trial, Glinton and another Bahamian co-defendant were convicted for the possession with intent to distribute of one kilogram of cocaine, according to the release.
The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Tarpon Springs Police Department and the Pasco County Sheriff's Office were involved in the investigation.
