CLEARWATER - A Pinellas County detention deputy facing drug and child pornography possession charges resigned today.
Kerry Albert Hunt, 45, a 17-year veteran of the sheriff's office, has been on administrative leave with pay since his arrest Aug. 6. His resignation is effective immediately, the sheriff's office said.
Hunt first was arrested on charges of possession of anabolic steroids and ecstasy. On Wednesday, detectives added five counts of "sexual performance of a child" after they seized computer disks and VHS tapes of child pornography from his Pinellas Park home.
The first arrest came after deputies received a tip that Hunt was using steroids, the sheriff's office said.
Hunt, who is 6-foot-1 and weighs 260 pounds, was arrested as he arrived for work at the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater. A search warrant subsequently was served at his home.
