SEBRING - A Sebring woman is in jail after she reportedly tried to swing and kick at a deputy and spat on the officer while he responded to a trespass complaint Wednesday night on Lawrence Avenue in Sebring, according to a sheriff's office report.

Brenda Kay Gibson, 35, also known as "Chucky" of 3807 Cemetery Road, Sebring, was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief with property damage more than $200 but less than $1,000 and resisting a law enforcement officer with violence.

Gibson remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bond on Thursday.

According to the incident record, the victim complained that she had a trespass order. When deputies arrived to investigate and then tried to handcuff Gibson, she reportedly took a swing at the deputy's face with a closed fist but missed when the deputy ducked, the arrest report stated.

Gibson continued to swing and kick at the deputy, threatening to kill this deputy. When Gibson was placed into the deputy's cruiser, she used her feet to kick out the driver's side rear window damaging the window frame, the report stated.

When the deputy tried to stop the destruction, Gibson reportedly spit on the deputy's uniform shirt and face, while continuing to shout profanity and making threats against all members of the sheriff's office, the report stated.

Spitting on a person is considered a battery. Spitting on a law enforcement officer is a third-degree felony.

Gibson, who is 5-feet 4-inches tall and weighs 243 pounds, was subdued and transported to the jail.
