TAMPA - Elections Supervisor Buddy Johnson faces foreclosure on his Sarasota condo.
Mortgage company Countrywide Home Loans Servicing filed a lawsuit last week in Sarasota circuit court against Johnson. The suit says Johnson has not paid the mortgage on the condo since January and now owes Countrywide $378,785, plus interest and other expenses.
Johnson said he expects the issue to be quickly resolved.
"I am working through the legal process with Countrywide and have secured and submitted a contract that is acceptable to Countrywide for the sale of this property," Johnson wrote in an e-mail. "I am confident this issue will be resolved favorably for me and Countrywide."
The Sarasota condo has an assessed value of $450,000. He owed about $7,500 in property taxes this year but has since paid up.
Johnson purchased the condo in December 2006 for $476,800, according to Sarasota's property appraiser records. He took out a $381,396 loan.
The attorney who filed the suit against Johnson, Edward Pritchard, could not be reached Wednesday.
