TALLAHASSEE - The anticipated clearance for Tavares Pressley to finally join the Florida State football team should provide a significant boost at tailback.
But even before the junior-college transfer arrives on the practice fields - possibly today - running backs coach Dexter Carter has reason to be upbeat. Carter welcomed Wednesday's rainy conditions, as did head coach Bobby Bowden.
FSU worked under wet conditions with only minor injuries to show for it. CB Tony Carter and WR Preston Parker were diagnosed with neck sprains and Terrance Parks suffered a right knee bruise.
Carter made it clear that Parker is concentrating on wideout and is not presently in the mix at tailback, where he started two games last season.
Even so, there is plenty of talent at a position that includes Marcus Sims, who Carter said will miss at least four games.
In addition to newcomers Ty Jones, a Middleton grad, and Jermaine Thomas, Brandon Paul is also at tailback.
The addition of Pressley, who rushed for 832 yards and 11 touchdowns last season at El Camino (Calif.) Community College, won't mean Paul will move back to wide receiver.
