TAMPA - A 41-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday, accused by Tampa police of using a television cord to whip a child in her care, according to an arrest affidavit.
Lula Mae Johnson of Tampa was charged with aggravated child abuse. The victim, whose name, age and gender was not listed in the arrest report, said the whipping occurred because corn bread was missing, the affidavit states.
The victim was struck several times with the cord, suffering cuts and bruises to the head, arm, stomach, back and legs, police said.
Johnson told police Wednesday that she had not seen the injuries, but said they could have been caused by the victim's 3-year-old sister "who plays rough," the affidavit states.
Johnson was being held on $10,000 bail Wednesday at Orient Road Jail.
