BRADENTON – A local man who was asked to pick up beer cans in his yard so it could be mowed became angry and waved a samurai sword at another man in his front yard, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Carlos Virgilio Montoya Perez, 54, of the 900 block of 33rd Avenue East, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and battery at his residence at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
A man who was preparing to mow the lawn at Perez's residence asked Perez to remove the beer cans. According to a report, Perez shoved the man and then went inside to retrieve the sword.
The man told deputies that Perez yelled at him while he swung the sword at him.
Perez told authorities that he has had prior lessons on using a sword from a Japanese instructor. Perez said he was shoved first and that he brought the sword outside in self-defense, according to a report.
