In addition to St. Catherine's School opening its doors for the first time, there are several other private schools in Highlands County.
Lake Placid Christian School
Lake Placid Christian School's first day of classes for students in grades six through eight is Aug. 18.

A total of 60 students were enrolled during the 2007-08 school year.

Walker Memorial Academy Walker Memorial Academy, 1525 W. Avon Blvd., in Avon Park, started school on Aug. 11.

There were 240 students Pre-K through 12th grade last year.

Lakeview Christian School

Lakeview Christian School will start the 2008-09 year on Aug. 18.

There were 95 students enrolled in Pre-K through fifth grade during the last school year.

Kenilworth School
Kenilworth School, located at 2835 Kenilworth Blvd., in Sebring, will start Aug. 18 for Pre-K through fifth grade.

A total of 120 students attended last year.

Heartland Christian School

Heartland Christian School, located at 1160 Persimmon Ave., in Sebring, began the 2008-09 year on Aug. 11.

The school has students in Pre-K through 12th grade.
