TAMPA - John "Junior" Gotti has left a New York prison and should arrive in Tampa on Tuesday, said his attorney, Charles Carnesi.
Gotti is traveling via U.S. Marshal's prison transport system, also known as "Con Air," his attorney said.
Gotti was charged by a federal grand jury in Tampa in the mob killings of three men in New York between 1988 and 1991.
He, Jimmy Cadicamo of Tampa and four other men from New York also are accused of a vast racketeering conspiracy dating to 1983 under the umbrella of the Gambino organized crime family. All six are to be prosecuted in Tampa.
Gotti was picked up in New York at the beginning of the week, according to Carnesi.
"He's taken the circuitous route," Carnesi said. "I know it doesn't take that long to get from New York to Tampa."
Since his arrest, Gotti has been in solitary confinement and has not seen his family, Carnesi said.
Carnesi said he does not know when Gotti will have his first Tampa court appearance or where Gotti will be staying once he arrives.
