DADE CITY - From bathtubs and bedding to books and office furniture, cabinets and doors to TVs and toys, East Pasco Habitat for Humanity's ReStore offers a variety of new and used merchandise. Sales help fund the nonprofit homebuilder's operations.
In the past year, ReStore proceeds provided $89,000 to fund a Habitat home in Dade City that will be dedicated this fall. The store also has contributed $41,000 toward Habitat operations.
ReStore will celebrate its third birthday Saturday at the store in the Dade City Business Center, 14940 Citrus Country Drive.
"We're trying to get the community more aware of us and want to make it a party atmosphere," said Niki Trapnell, the store's manager. "We continue to get blessings in the donations we get and the things we can do for the community."
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., people will be treated to free hot dogs, drinks and cupcakes, plus discounts and giveaways.
The store is part of a wide-scale Habitat program.
"The ReStore began because of a movement within Habitat International to generate a stream of income toward our building program," said Karen Streaker, director of development and public relations at East Pasco Habitat For Humanity.
The store is stocked with public donations of new and used merchandise.
"ReStore is a good name because we're dealing with materials that have been restored, that are staying out of the dump," said Streaker.
In that way, the store serves multiple purposes.
"We believe in reuse, recycle, repurpose," Trapnell said. "We want the community to know their donations are going to help their community, its people and Habitat homeowners.
"We believe in 'pass it forward.'"
