ST. PETERSBURG - City work crews are lowering water levels and taking other steps this weekend to prepare for approaching Tropical Storm Fay.
Lakes and retention ponds are being drawn down, including at Lake Maggiore, city officials said. Crews are also clearing debris from storm drains for maximum drainage and clearing brush and debris from low-lying areas.
Depending on the track of the storm, the city is anticipating large amounts of wind and rain.
Residents are asked by city officials to monitor the progress of the storm as it moves toward Cuba.
