Regarding "Know-Nothing Politics And A Party Of Stupid" (Other Views, Aug. 13):
Liberal columnist Paul Krugman's vitriolic attack upon the Republicans struck a raw nerve, but not for the reasons he intended. Inflammatory drivel like Krugman's is being cranked out by both sides in the hope that if the average voter can be kept emotionally aroused at the "other party," he or she will not notice that the basic business of running the U.S. government has faltered and finally come to a virtual halt; Congress, all of it, despite its well lubricated rhetoric, has clearly failed America.
The national process has been poisoned and disabled by partisan politics at the very time we need it most: the most dangerous economic and national security environment in recent history. In reading Krugman's piece, I was struck by his ability to see half of the problem - the Republican half - with great clarity, while the other half of the national political rot remained an invisible mystery to him. Perhaps if we stopped re-electing our repeat offenders from both parties, Mr. Krugman's selective myopia would be less of an issue.
Term limits anyone?
