Road Closures Planned During Festival

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Police Department has announced road closures for the Caladium Festival from Aug. 22-24.

Festival parking restrictions will include the Stuart Park area, with road closures of Interlake Boulevard, just west of Oak Avenue. Businesses along Interlake will have open parking along Interlake as usual.

Park Street will be closed from Oak Avenue to Main Avenue. Stuart Avenue will be closed. Pine Avenue will be closed from Interlake Boulevard to Park Street. Roads closed for the festival will be closed beginning on Thursday at 4 p.m., ending on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Antique Car Show on Saturday will encompass DeVane Park, the town circle on Interlake Boulevard. Commerce Street will be partially closed to facilitate car show parking.

There will be a 5K race on Saturday, sponsored by the Lake Placid Presbyterian Church that will officially start at 7:30 a.m. The race will cause temporary road closures at various locations for about one hour.

The race route will weave around the town of Lake Placid and the police department will have officers and crossing guards stopping traffic as needed at several intersections.

Car show participants arriving during the 5K race should plan on arriving at DeVane Circle via Interlake Boulevard. Last year's 5K race caused problems since car show participants arrived at the same time as runners and spectators.

Police have arranged a traffic plan that will better facilitate both events: Traffic from Placid Lakes will be rerouted from Interlake Boulevard, away from DeVane Circle during the 5K race.

Businesses along Interlake will have parking. The Wauchula Bank Main Avenue Branch will have drive-thru banking open Friday, but closed Saturday. The Main Avenue branch will be closed totally on Saturday. The Wauchula Branch behind Winn-Dixie will have banking, including drive-thru, as usual, Friday and Saturday.
MIDFLORIDA Federal Credit Union at Main Avenue and Interlake Boulevard will close its drive-thru both Friday and Saturday. The lobby will be open on Friday and will be closed on Saturday.

Traffic will be slow and congested throughout Lake Placid during these events.
