ST. PETERSBURG - Two men are in custody on charges of trying to kill three people during a robbery at a convenience store Sunday.
Spencer Peeples, 27, of St. Petersburg, and Khadafy Mullens, 25, a transient, are charged with, among other things, armed robbery and three counts of attempted homicide, St. Petersburg police said in a prepared statement.
At 6:35 p.m., the pair were robbing the Central Food Mart, 2157 Central Ave., when Mullens shot a 44-year-old St. Petersburg man, a 66-year-old St. Petersburg man, and an unidentified man, authorities said. All three victims were in critical condition this morning at Bayfront Medical Center, police said.
The names of the shooting victims are being withheld because it is unclear whether their families have been told of their injuries.
After the shooting, the suspects took the car of a shooting victim and drove off. Patrol officers later spotted it, chased it briefly and arrested Peeples, police said. Mullens was later arrested as he was leaving Peeples' house, police said.
