Bradenton Mom Arrested After Toddler Found In Street

BRADENTON – The mother of a 1-year-old girl was arrested Monday evening on a charge of child neglect after the infant was found wandering the street while the mother picked up another child at school.

Martha P. Navis-Torres, 33, of the 1600 block of 51st Avenue East, told deputies her daughter was sleeping when she left for about 15 minutes to pick her son up from school around 3:30 p.m. Monday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

A witness said the infant came out of the trailer park and stood in the middle of 51st Avenue East near 15th Street East. Cars were swerving around the girl and honking their horns, according to a report. The witness took the child in and called 911. The girl was not injured
