8:33 a.m. Polk County emergency managers are preparing to get back to business as usual.
Because Fay appears to be heading to the east of Polk, officials expect no more than a stormy summer day. Red Cross shelters that were scheduled to open at 10 a.m. are no longer necessary and will not open. The special needs transportation has been canceled. Special needs shelters are open with a very small number of people in them, but those shelters are expected to close by noon today.
Schools and county offices will be open as usual tomorrow. School transportation officials say parents should expect stormy conditions to continue Wednesday, but those will not prevent any buses from running.
Emergency operations center officials have another briefing planned at noon to discuss scaling back their activation level. They expect to return to minimal staffing levels sometime this afternoon.
