ST. PETE BEACH - Judi and John Herold strolled along the beach this morning, picking up shells under a cloudy sky as tiny waves lapped the shore.
Just hours earlier the Houston couple were under a mandatory evacuation order, courtesy of the Pinellas County Commission, as was everyone else living or staying along the county's coastline.
But the Herolds never gave the edict much thought, especially since the staff at the beachfront hotel where they were staying didn't seem to take it seriously.
As it turned out, Tropical Storm Fay didn't have much of an effect along Pinellas County's coastline.
Then again, the Herolds are used to false alarms.
The couple have a beach house in Crystal Beach, in the Galveston, Texas, area, so when Tropical Storm Edouard approached this month, they made preparations. Edouard turned out to be little more than a rainstorm.
Fay turned out to be less.
"We were like, 'Is it going to be something or not?' '' said Judi Herold, a crisis counselor. "It isn't anything, is it?"
