WINTER HAVEN - Rain continues to drench every corner of Polk County, but emergency management officials have shut down their operations.
There are no reports of power outages and few reports of neighborhood flooding, county spokesman Dave Walters said.
But a tornado watch remains in effect until 4 p.m. today for the county, which is catching the outer bands of Tropical Storm Fay.
Winds in Winter Haven are driving rain horizontally, but that did little to intimidate Thomas Enderby and Kendra Burney, who spent the afternoon at Lake Hartridge Nature Park watching 6-year-old Makayla Enderby play on a slide at the sheltered playground.
"This is nothing new," Burney said as Makayla bounced around the playground while the wind whipped her hair. "We're used to it."
