Delicious Morsels On TV This Week
"Dinner: Impossible," 10 tonight, Food Network
The season debut finds a new host, Cleveland-based Iron Chef Michael Symon, at the helm. (See The Stew on Page 2 for an interview and podcast information.) His first show: cooking for dignitaries on Alcatraz Island. Big challenge: His kitchen is across San Francisco Bay. Ooops. We'd just throw up our hands and call in for pizza.
"Ace of Cakes," 10 p.m. Thursday, Food Network
In this new episode, soul-patched cakemeister Duff Goldman makes a replica of a pinball machine and a cake version of Boston's Fenway Park, which, we're guessing, required a wicked amount of green fondant icing. Good luck navigating that falling concrete in the Ted Williams tunnel, pally.
"America's Test Kitchen," 1:30 p.m. Saturday, WEDU, Channel 3
Our favorite bow-tied culinarian, Christopher Kimball, helps his crew double their fun with recipes for garlicky shrimp with bread crumbs and shrimp salad. We're guessing it includes lots of fussy looks on his face, admissions of shrimp dishes he's botched and occasional adjustments of his wire-frame glasses.
"Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations," 10 p.m. Monday, Travel Channel
This season might be Bourdain's best yet. In this episode, he travels to Egypt. As is his method, he bypasses the tourist traps and predictable eateries in favor of staying with local families and sleeping under the stars in the desert. Here's hoping he moisturized. With this season's rate of sun exposure during shows in the southwestern United States and on the beaches of Uruguay, he's only a few sunburns away from Keith Richards wrinkle territory.
