GAINESVILLE - With just 10 days remaining until the University of Florida's season opener against Hawaii, it appears highly unlikely that WR Percy Harvin will play a prominent role on offense. Harvin underwent surgery in April to repair a heel injury that has nagged him since high school.
The junior has spent the majority of fall practice roaming the sidelines and doing conditioning drills. The Virginia Beach native began cutting for the first time on Monday, but he is not close to returning to full strength.
"The main thing with him is the soreness," wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales said. "He's running straight ahead now, and gradually as he starts to do the cutting stuff - and he's been doing some of that at practice as well - conditioning is probably going to be the biggest thing for him."
MURPHY SLOWED BY INJURY: Senior WR Louis Murphy has been slowed by a nagging ankle injury for the past week.
Murphy sprained his ankle last Monday.
"He has not been as consistent as he should be right now," Gonzales said.
"He knows that, and at the same time Louis is a leader and he's going to make those plays. He just has to get the confidence back on his ankle."
BRANTLEY IMPROVING: It appears John Brantley might be a favorite in the race to back up Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.
"Johnny the past five days has been phenomenal," Coach Urban Meyer said.
