INDIANAPOLIS - Peyton Manning made it to his first practice of the season Tuesday, then ended his self-imposed silence by saying he wanted to play in Indianapolis' first regular-season game Sept. 7 against Chicago - although he couldn't provide a guarantee.
"I've not really had a whole lot to say to tell you the truth," he said. "As to when I'll be back on the practice field, that's still to be determined. Obviously, the sooner, the better for me. My goal is to be back for the first game."
Indy's franchise quarterback had been kept out of public view since having surgery to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee July 14.
SAPP GETS TV GIG: Outspoken former NFL star Warren Sapp will appear on "Inside the NFL," which moves to Showtime this fall.
Sapp joins James Brown, Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth, the network announced Tuesday. The former Bucs defensive tackle retired after last season.
BENGALS: Wide receiver Chris Henry is back with the team, four months after they dumped him following his fifth arrest since 2005.
Henry will not be available to the team immediately. He has to serve a four-week NFL suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
Henry was accused in March of punching a University of Cincinnati student and breaking his car window.
BILLS: Starting quarterback Trent Edwards hurt his right leg during practice when he knocked knees with running back Marshawn Lynch.
BROWNS: Quarterback Derek Anderson left Monday night's 37-34 exhibition loss to the Giants early in the second quarter with a possible concussion. The team was off Tuesday and did not update his condition.
CARDINALS: Say they have no plans to trade sixth-year standout wide receiver Anquan Boldin, who said he has no relationship with Coach Ken Whisenhunt.
FALCONS: The team will receive no return on Joe Horn's guaranteed $2.5 million salary for 2008 after they cut the veteran wide receiver Tuesday.
TITANS: Waived veteran punter Josh Miller and signed defensive back Tuff Harris.
PATRIOTS: Released 13-year veteran tight end Marcus Pollard and signed rookie tight end Tyson DeVree.
RAIDERS: Cornerback DeAngelo Hall has ligament damage in his right hand and may have to wear a protective cast for the rest of the preseason.
SEAHAWKS: Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck left Tuesday morning's practice after about 45 minutes when his back began to tighten up again.
STEELERS: Safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring) participated in a full practice for the first time this preseason.
