TAMPA - A man was seriously injured late Tuesday as he crossed Fletcher Avenue on a bicycle and was hit by a car, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies are trying to identify the bicyclist, who is Hispanic, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing bluejeans and a white T-shirt.
The man was crossing Fletcher Avenue from a private driveway just before midnight Tuesday. He was riding a blue Mongoose bicycle across the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes near Cecelia Avenue, deputies said.
A red 2004 Chevrolet driven by Kimberly Rose Goodrich, 20, was traveling west when the bicyclist entered its path, deputies said. Goodrich braked and swerved but could not avoid the bicycle, deputies said.
The man was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and was in serious condition.
Anyone with information should call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.
