TAMPA - An arrest warrant has been issued for a man accused of assaulting two teens at gunpoint in Apollo Beach on July 19, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Rigoberto Moron Martinez, 20, is wanted on a warrant for armed kidnapping and aggravated assault.
According to a sheriff's office news release:
Martinez was driving a dark-colored SUV about 3 a.m. July 19 when he approached two 17-year-old girls walking south on U.S. 41. Martinez asked the girls if they wanted a ride. The teens declined and he drove away.
As the teens walked west on nearby Elsberry Road, Martinez ran toward them on foot and stopped them at gunpoint. He asked to used a cell phone and the girls said no. The girls were grabbed by the neck and were forced to walk with Martinez to a vacant parking lot.
There, the girls were told to lie on the ground. The teens screamed and Martinez ran away.
Martinez is described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 210 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
The sheriff's office did not say if Martinez is connected with the abduction of two Apollo Beach restaurant workers that occurred over the weekend. Detectives are focusing on the active warrant that involved the incident with the two 17-year-olds, sheriff's spokesman Debbie Carter said.
Anyone with information about Martinez is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
