TAMPA - Deputies are still trying to identify a man seriously injured Tuesday after he crossed Fletcher Avenue on a bicycle and rode into the path of a car.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office described the man as Hispanic, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing bluejeans and a white T-shirt.
The man pulled out of a gas station shortly before midnight Tuesday to cross Fletcher Avenue, said Kimberly Rose Goodrich, the driver of the 2004 Chevrolet that the bicyclist struck.
The man was riding a blue Mongoose bicycle across the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes near Cecelia Avenue, deputies said.
Goodrich, 20, was traveling west when the bicyclist entered her car's path, deputies said. Goodrich braked and swerved but could not avoid the bicycle, deputies said.
The man, who was holding a six-pack of beer, crashed into the side of the Chevrolet, Goodrich said. The driver-side window was rolled down and one of the bottles struck her in the face, Goodrich said.
The man was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he remained in serious condition Thursday night, the sheriff's office said.
Anyone with information should call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story had an incorrect time for when the crash occurred.
