VALRICO - Although he didn't win the opportunity to make his own music video as a contestant on "High School Musical: Get in the Picture Competition," Valrico native JohnWesley Honaker managed to win the hearts of teenage girls from around the country. And his YouTube video performance is still drawing attention.
The 18-year-old 2008 graduate of Grace Christian School was among 12 finalists who performed on the ABC summer reality show.
Honaker and five other contestants were eliminated in the first round in July, but not before he had a chance to perform a duet of the Backstreet Boys' hit "I Want It That Way" with another contestant in front of millions of television viewers.
Since then, a YouTube video of his duet with another contestant has generated more than 7,500 hits, along with comments from fans disappointed Honaker was voted off.
His elimination didn't stop Honaker from signing a contract with Disney Studios for possible future work.
He said that he is not sure what the future holds. "I'm not ruling anything out," he said.
