CLAIR-MEL CITY - Bobby Triplett, pastor of the newly formed Element Church, has a clear vision for what he and other members hope to accomplish.
"Instead of going to church, we are the church. We want to reach out to everyone. Jesus didn't just hang out with the church kids," Triplett said.
For the past several weeks, he and other congregants have been transforming an unfinished warehouse off Causeway Boulevard into their future meeting place.
Triplett was senior director of young adults at The Crossing in Brandon until May, when about 60 members started meeting in small groups at homes across the area.
"I got a call to plant a different type of church, a church that focuses less on the building and more on the people," he said. "Our mission is to be the light of the world by helping others, that we love and care for people whether they go to church or not."
They haven't raised enough money yet to buy furniture, so church members will bring their lawn chairs for a preview gathering at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Element Church is located at 2702 Causeway Center Drive, Clair-Mel City. For information, visit bobbytriplett.blogspot.com.
