PALMETTO - Wanted: executive director for a year-old, regional transportation authority trying to figure out what to build, where to build and how to pay for it all.
The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority voted Friday to use a one-time state grant to hire an executive director at $150,000 a year.
Ads will start running in magazines, newspapers and online sites in a week or two for the post, which includes a $6,000 pay raise next year. Resumes will be accepted until Sept. 22.
The authority has debated i how to spend a $2 million state grant awarded in the spring.
In addition to hiring an executive director, the authority approved a spending plan that calls for hiring a planner and an administrative assistant at $40,000 each; and an additional $39,000 for office space, office equipment and miscellaneous startup costs.
A special committee will interview candidates and negotiate benefits for the executive director position. A decision could be reached by late October, with the new director starting work a month or two after that.
In other business, the authority decided to hold a workshop Sept. 26 to discuss long-range financing for projects.
Among the ideas, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio is proposing a sales tax to pay for a light-rail system that would run from New Tampa to downtown to Tampa International Airport.
