Brooksville - Alan Stephens woke up this morning to find his oak tree lying across the corner of his house, courtesy of Tropical Storm Fay.
Stephens, of 12435 Citrus Way, said the "humungeous" double-trunk live oak split in the storm, with half of it falling onto his roof and "the other half is about to come over.''
Stephens, with some help, was using a front-end loader and a Bobcat to take the down the tree before it falls. He said the saturated ground, coupled with wind gusts from Fay, toppled the tree.
He said the tree in his front yard and several limbs were covering the house this morning. He said he wouldn't be able to assess the damage until the tree is moved.
"It happened before daylight," Stephens said, but sound of the falling tree was not loud enough to wake him. No one was hurt, he said.
Hernando County had been under a tropical storm warning until 9:30 a.m. today. A tornado watch remains posted until 3 p.m.
A county flood watch and high surf advisories also are in force, part of the lingering effects of Fay as it moved off through the Panhandle, the Emergency Management Office reports.
Several bands of showers, with wind gusts and occasional lightning, passed through the county overnight, but there were no reports of widespread storm damage.
