Bradenton - Authorities have identified the man a deputy shot to death and his wife, who they said he was trying to stab at the time.
Michael Knowles, 50, 7710 Westmoreland Drive, was pronounced dead at Manatee Memorial Hospital at 12:56 p.m. Friday, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said today.
His wife, Carol Banton, 46, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with non-life threatening stab wounds, the sheriff's report said.
Their names weren't released by authorities until today.
The deputies responded to home about 11:20 a.m. after getting to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they heard a woman inside crying and yelling, "He's stabbing me," the sheriff's office said.
They broke through the door and sheriff's Deputy Larry Teeters fired a single shot at Knowles as he was stabbing the woman, the sheriff's office reported.
Neighbors said neither Knowles nor Banton owned the home, sheriff's officials said.
