The Stone Temple Pilots disappointed the crowd at the Ford Amphitheater Friday night by postponing their concert.

The rowdy fans celebrated through the opening band, but reacted with disappointment to the 10:30 p.m. announcement that the band was delayed in Ft. Lauderdale and unable to make it to Tampa due to inclement weather.

The band also had canceled a show Thursday night in Orlando because of Tropical Storm Fay.

"It was definitely a bummer because I was looking forward to it," said Susan Barnes, of Tampa, who went to the concert with three friends, two of whom drove over from Orlando.

Barnes said people sitting in the general admission area started booing and throwing water bottles and other things on stage.

"If the reason was inclement weather, they didn't know that until 10:30?" Barnes asked with doubt.

The band's Web site, whose forum lists other rumors for the cancellation, apologized for the inconvenience and said that "this is completely out of our control at this time."

Stone Temple Pilots formed in 1986 and achieved national fame during the grunge-rock era, winning a Grammy in 1993 for their song 'Plush.' The band broke up in 2003, and lead singer Scott Weiland joined former members of Guns N'Roses in the band Velvet Revolver.

Weiland and bandmates Robert and Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz reunited this year.

Live Nation notified ticket holders like Barnes that they could either return their ticket for a full refund or use it at a rescheduled concert, the date of which has yet to be determined.

For refund questions, contact Live Nation's customer support at (800) 431-3462, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, or email ticketsupport@livenation.com.
