I just wanted to give a big "thank you" to all the Floridians who voted yes on Amendment 1. As usual, Florida voters did a bang-up job of researching and understanding the implications of what they were voting for. I will save a whopping $175 on my property taxes this year. But please let me tell you how the cuts in funding have affected my family and the community I live in.
My Brownie troop, of which I am the leader, can no longer meet at the Land O' Lakes recreation center without paying a fee because their budgets have been decimated. My library now closes an hour earlier and late fees have increased. My son's chess club is struggling to find a place that won't charge us to hold a countywide chess tournament for charity. Schools are struggling (some don't even have extra money for copy paper, which must be strictly controlled), rec programs are struggling, county governments are struggling and laying off police and firefighters.
So thank you Flori-duh. You've done it again!
