Call To 911 Prompts Palmetto Man To Set House On Fire

A man in a fistfight with his stepfather in the front yard of their Manatee County home this morning set fire to the house when he realized his mother was calling 911, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Juan Santana, 25, was fighting with Victor Saenz about 5:30 a.m. today when Santana's mother called police. Santana left the fight and ran back into the house at 1500 1st Ave. E. in Palmetto. He set it on fire while deputies were on the way, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and one family member still asleep inside. A deputy pulled the family member to safety through a window, the sheriff's office said.
A brief search turned up Santana, who was charged with arson of an occupied structure and domestic battery, a sheriff's office report said. Saenz, 30, was treated and released for injuries from the fight.
