MIAMI - Ted Ginn Jr. is starting to look as though he's worth that high draft pick.
Ginn had a 59-yard punt return for a touchdown and caught three passes to lead the Miami Dolphins to a 24-0 romp against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.
The speedy Ginn, taken No. 9 overall in the 2007 draft, is finally displaying the go-to skills of a top NFL receiver. He finished with 29 yards receiving in his third solid performance of the preseason.
Chad Pennington threw for 94 yards on 11 for 15 passing, including a 17-yard pass to Anthony Fasano that put the Dolphins ahead 17-0 at the half. Ricky Williams had 47 yards rushing and caught two passes for 8 yards in one half.
BROWNS 26, LIONS 6: Brady Quinn was lackluster in his first NFL start and the depleted Cleveland Browns were roughed up for the second time in a week.
Kevin Smith overcame a sluggish start with a 35-yard touchdown run and backup kicker Dave Rayner improved his chances of finding a job with four field goals, lifting Detroit past Cleveland.
PANTHERS 47, REDSKINS 3: Jason Taylor limped off the field with a worrisome knee injury and the Redskins quickly unraveled against the Panthers' 1-2 punch of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart.
The running backs combined to rush for 201 yards and two touchdowns, Jake Delhomme threw for two scores and Carolina cruised as Washington's high-priced addition didn't make it to halftime.
Washington gave up touchdowns on the next five possessions, including Stewart's 50-yard TD run and Williams' 60-yard scamper.
JETS 10, GIANTS 7: Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora was carted off the field with a knee injury in the second quarter of the Giants' loss to the Jets. The injury overshadowed a first-half quarterback duel between Brett Favre and Eli Manning that ended up being a penalty-filled snoozer.
Favre, in his second start since being acquired from Green Bay, finished nine of 12 for 96 yards and had a pretty touchdown pass negated by a penalty. Manning was 10 of 17 for 113 yards.
SAINTS 13, BENGALS 0: New Orleans sacked Carson Palmer three times in the first half, knocking him out of the game with a bloody nose and a cut lip. Palmer left the game when Kevin Kaesviharn got to him on a third-down safety blitz with two seconds left before halftime.
RAMS 24, RAVENS 10: St. Louis' first-string offense ended its long slump with two touchdowns. Troy Smith's illness forced Baltimore to put its quarterback derby on hold.
Marc Bulger's 4-yard pass to Keenan Burton with six minutes to go in the second quarter gave the Rams' starters their first score of the preseason.
Smith, who is battling incumbent Kyle Boller for the Ravens' quarterback spot, missed a scheduled start and a chance to seize the job because of a viral illness.
STEELERS 12, VIKINGS 10: The Vikings kept the pressure on Ben Roethlisberger, surrounded Willie Parker and held Pittsburgh's starting offense to three points before the Steelers rallied after halftime.
Jeff Reed kicked four field goals, the last a 37-yarder with four seconds left.
Minnesota held out quarterback Tarvaris Jackson (knee) and receivers Bernard Berrian (toe) and Sidney Rice (illness).
CHARGERS: Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman said he has two torn ligaments in his left knee and has been told by doctors that he could suffer a possible career-ending injury if he attempts to play without having surgery.
Merriman said he has tears in both the posterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments. He said doctors agree that he needs surgery.
