Scrimmage Struggles Don't Concern Fisher

TALLAHASSEE - The numbers from Monday's scrimmage were not pretty for the Florida State offense.

Neither was the film.

But after reviewing the struggles his unit had against the Seminoles' defense, offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher wasn't anywhere close to panic mode following Tuesday's practice.

"Had a couple of drops and we missed a couple of throws," Fisher said about Monday's scrimmage, in which his offense tallied 82 yards on 35 plays during one stretch. "But we hadn't been outside practicing since last Thursday."

As for the quarterback play, he had plenty to say on each of the three candidates for the starting job after reviewing the film.

"D'Vontrey Richardson went in first and made a throw or two where I wish he would've gone somewhere else, but really didn't make a throw he shouldn't have," Fisher said of the sophomore. "He was pretty decently accurate."

Fisher also seemed to be impressed with fellow sophomore Christian Ponder.

"I thought he played well," Fisher said. "He had one throw to Greg Carr, where looking back I saw what happened - DE Markus White deflected the thing when he jumped. He caught the tip of it and got it down ... But other than that, decisions were good."

Fisher said fifth-year senior from Land O'Lakes, Drew Weatherford, "missed a couple of guys here and there."

"And he had the one play on the goal line - a really poor throw on the goal line that freshman LB Nigel Bradham intercepted," Fisher said. "A really poor decision.

"But the other two QBs seemed to play pretty good. And Drew wasn't bad. He was just OK."

QUESTION MARK: FSU's offense will have no scholarship tight ends in the season opener against Western Carolina.

Veteran Charlie Graham has still not been cleared to play after attending Tallahassee Community College this summer. Freshmen Ja'Baris Little and Bo Reliford are also waiting to be cleared and Caz Piurowski will be suspended for the first three games.
