Transgendered Ex-Largo Manager Gets Divorce Terms

Published: August 26, 2008

CLEARWATER - Susan Stanton, the former Largo city manager known as Steven Stanton before a sex change, has mediated his divorce from his wife of 18 years, according to court documents.

The agreement was signed off on by a Pinellas-Pasco judge on Aug. 6.

Stanton monthly must pay her wife, Donna, $4,756 in alimony and an additional $799 in child support, according to a copy of the settlement. The two had a boy who now is 15.

Stanton hasn't landed a job since the Largo City Commission fired her. So she has agreed to pay Donna Stanton a lump sum of $50,000 from her retirement plan as a longtime government employee.

That sum is supposed to cover alimony and child support payments from April 1 through the end of the year. If Stanton, who once made $157,000 a year, doesn't get a job by then, her ex-wife is entitled to more of the retirement account, according to the settlement.

The pair also agreed to reduce Susan Stanton's share in the former couple's home in Clearwater – where Donna and their son will continue to live -- by the same amount Donna Stanton accrued in loans to become an echocardiogram technician.

Donna Stanton has until June 30, 2012, to refinance the property to give Susan Stanton her share in the home's equity, the settlement states.

Donna Stanton also will receive 50 percent of any money her ex-husband receives from movies or books about Steven Stanton's life.

Susan Stanton, whose last known address is in Sarasota, could not be reached for comment.
