Pinellas County sheriff's deputies were out in force Wednesday night in Lealman as part of a crackdown targeting about 60 street-level drug dealers.

As of late Wednesday, 20 suspects have been arrested, the sheriff's office said.

The arrests cap a two-month undercover investigation in the Lealman community, the sheriff's office said. Tips from residents and members of the local neighborhood watch groups helped detectives put together a list of suspects, sheriff's spokeswoman Marianne Pasha said in a news release.

The sheriff's office set up a command center at Lealman Intermediate School, 4990 28th St. N., during the crackdown.

Teams took arrestees to the command center where they were processed then taken by vans to Pinellas County Jail. Suspects not found and arrested tonight are expected to be taken into custody in several days.

Detectives targeted people accused of selling and being in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, hydrocodone, powder cocaine and other controlled substances, the sheriff's office said.

The operation started at 7 p.m.
