A Division of Forestry firefighter is accused of stealing aluminum piping from his employer and selling it to scrap metal dealers, Polk County deputies say.
Deputies with the sheriff's Agricultural Crimes division were investigating thefts and sales of irrigation piping from orange groves, according to a news release. During their investigation they interviewed Michael Lamar Adams II, 26, who had sold 4-inch piping to two dealers. He admitted to taking the piping from the office he worked out of at 102 Lincoln Ave. in Dundee, the release says.
The pipes are used to fight forest fires, according to the release. Adams took 15 pipes worth about $1,500 and received 300 in return, the release says.
Adams was booked into the Polk County Jail this afternoon and charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property and defrauding a second-hand metal dealer, according to the release.
Adams' address was unavailable.
