PALM HARBOR - An 86-year-old man riding a motorized wheelchair was killed this morning when he was struck by a car on Alderman Road east of Alternate U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
John Romanyak of Palm Harbor died at Bayfront Medical Center at 7 a.m., less than an hour after the collision, the patrol said.
Romanyak had just left the Key West Shopping Center when he was struck by a Honda driven by Kelli M. Borenstein, 38, of Tarpon Springs, the patrol said. The motorized wheelchair went into the path of the Honda, and Borenstein was unable to stop, the patrol said.
