An 10-year-old boy was struck by a car this morning while playing with a ball near his home on Valrico Road, Hillsborough County deputies say.
According to deputies, Christian Gonzalez, of 1221 N. Valrico Road, Lot 70, Valrico, chased the ball into the street about 7:21 a.m. today and was struck by a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Carlos Garcia, 65, of Valrico.
The fourth-grader at Valrico Elementary School was waiting by a school bus stop before he was struck, county school district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.
The boy was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he is in serious condition.
Garcia immediately stopped at the scene.
