TAMPA - While searching for a missing woman, police found a woman's body in a vacant field at 11 a.m. today at Second Avenue East and 24th Street North.
The medical examiner's office is trying to identity the woman, who was in her 40s, and the cause of death. Police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said detectives have reason to believe the woman's death is a homicide and are treating it as such. She declined to elaborate.
The woman police were searching for is 46-year-old Debra Wagner. Davis said the medical examiner will determine whether the woman whose body was found is Wagner.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, Davis said.
Public records show Wagner has relatives in New Hampshire. An attempt to reach them was unsuccessful.
