HEROES: SEASON 2

In spite of the addition of guest star Kristen "Veronica Mars" Bell, and the juicy off-screen pairing of series regulars Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panetierre, the second season of this superhero drama was widely regarded as being in a sophomore slump. But maybe the alternate ending included in this four-disc set will make more sense.

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS **

Can it be that global warming has finally sucked the last drops from the well of romantic comedy plots? How else to explain the tired premise of this movie, in which uptight career girl Cameron Diaz and lazy slob Ashton Kutcher drunkenly marry and are forced to stay together long enough to fall in love when he hits the jackpot with her quarter?

CHICAGO 10

This semi-documentary looks back at the 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago, in which scores of young radicals clashed with police, with an emphasis on the ensuing conspiracy trial of Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and others. Director Brett Morgen amps up the circuslike atmosphere of the proceedings by presenting them via computer rotoscoping.

IS OSAMA BIN LADEN? **

Morgan Spurlock's me-me-me perspective is less effective in this effort, which sees Spurlock traveling through the Middle East to make minor observations about Muslim culture while worrying about whether he'll make it home in time for the birth of his child - surely the most pressing issue in that part of the world today.

CNN PRESENTS: BLACK IN AMERICA

The makers of this documentary may wish they had waited to see how the election turns out, since the subject matter - the struggles and successes of black Americans 40 years after the death of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. - is about to get a major footnote. Soledad O'Brien hosts the special, which looks at black women and families and then focuses on black men.

Writer-director David Mamet is back with another tense, stylish story about the chumps and con artists who populate his fast-talking underworld. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as a down-on-his-luck martial arts instructor who gets roped into a soul-crushing series of betrayals and traps, thanks to regular Mamet players Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna and Rebecca Pidgeon.
