Janice Vogt has a little bit
of everything in her Seminole Heights gardens, but the front yard is devoted to roses.
Most are hybrid teas;
the Rose of Sharon may be
a little gardener joke. (Don't get it? It's a hibiscus in the
mallow family.)
Janice swears growing beautiful roses doesn't take a lot of work. Especially if you pay someone else to do the spraying for
disease, fungus and pests.
She uses Personal Touch Rose Service in Tampa. Prices for the full service, which
also includes dead-heading, fertilizing and pruning, start
at $100 a month, says owner Angie Sink.
As for the rest, roses like
full sun and water, at least
an inch per week,
Janice says.
She orders most
of her plants from Jackson & Perkins, www.jackson
a well-respected South Carolina company. And she sticks with Mills
Magic Rose Mix fertilizer (get 6 pounds for $15.99
at www.millsmix.com.)
