TAMPA - Hillsborough County school officials Wednesday released their SAT college entrance exam scores for the class of 2008.
Reading dropped four points from 2007. Math and writing each dropped one point from the previous year.
The average Hillsborough reading score was 496, tying with the state and six points below the national average.
Math was 504, seven points above the state average and 11 points below the national average.
Writing was 481, a tie with the state and 13 points below the national average.
Each section has a maximum possible score of 800.
The 2008 national SAT average scores in reading, math and writing were identical to the previous year.
Florida as a whole dropped a point in reading, went up a point in math and up two points in writing.
Still, the state continues to lag behind the nation in all three areas of the SAT.
Nearly 100,000 Florida students took the SAT, a record number.
