TAMPA - WellCare Health Plans Inc. and several other health care companies have notified Florida that they will pull out of a pilot program aimed at providing HMO-style health coverage for Medicaid recipients in two Florida counties outside the Tampa Bay area, state officials said Thursday.
Tampa-based WellCare does not give a reason for the move in a letter sent to state officials Aug. 15.
WellCare is pulling out of Broward and Duval counties, where it represents about 83,000 recipients under the program.
State officials said any affected recipients would be notified in advance of any change to their benefits and would be offered the option to move to other plans.
