A Valrico man wanted on a warrant for felony DUI manslaughter has been arrested, according to jail records.
Shawn V. Mowery was being sought in connection with a Feb. 8 crash on U.S. Highway 301 where his Honda Civic struck a Toyota Corolla head-on, fatally injuring the other driver, Nancy Hnat, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Investigators found that Mowery, 20, had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.184 – more than twice the legal limit of .08 – at the time of the wreck, troopers said. His lawyer said tonight that Mowery was not as intoxicated as troopers say.
A judge signed a warrant Thursday for Mowery's arrest, and he was contacted through his attorney to surrender at the Orient Road Jail, the highway patrol said.
He was arrested at 4 p.m., according to jail records. He remains in Orient Road Jail, with bail set at $25,000.
