CLEARWATER - A 28-year-old Dunedin man was arrested Thursday and charged with being drunk when his car ran a red light in June and struck a car, killing a passenger in that car.
Casey Schwartz was charged with driving under the influence-manslaughter. He was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on $20,000 bail, according to a jail affidavit.
At 7:51 p.m. June 13, Schwartz was driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra on Keene Road when he ran a red light at Sunset Point Road and struck a 1995 Cherokee Laredo, the jail affidavit says.
The Laredo flipped, veered into the oncoming lane on Keene and struck a Kia, Clearwater police said.
The Laredo's passenger, James Vincent Lehosit, 27, no address available, was killed, police have said.
The Laredo's driver suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the Kia was not injured, the jail affidavit says.
Schwartz's breath smelled of alcohol, his speech was mumbled and he had watery eyes, the affidavit says. He blood-alcohol level was 0.144 and 0.142, the affidavit says. A driver in Florida is presumed intoxicated if his blood-alcohol level is 0.08 percent or more.
