The most noticeable thing about Tuesday's election is the turnout, or more specifically the lack thereof. Last I checked, 10 percent of those eligible to vote actually voted. Frankly, I am astonished and extremely disappointed. For the judicial races, which represent the third branch of our government, it is as if the entire county said, "Who cares?"
We are afforded the opportunity to have an active part in the selection of our leaders, yet we take it for granted. We have a voice and an instrument for change, yet we remain silent in the face of instability.
I almost want my eight years of military service back. Perhaps those years were better spent in self-indulgent disregard for the county's future. I hope not.
