BRADENTON – A Bradenton man called deputies Thursday to turn himself in for robbing a bank Wednesday afternoon because he was upset about it, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Charles Whitley, 44, of the 4400 block of Friendly Harbor Street, was arrested on a charge of armed robbery after he called deputies from a Shell Station in the 3700 block of Cortez Road.

Whitley also told deputies he spent the stolen money from First Bank, located at 9819 Cortez Road W., before he turned himself in, according to a report.

The bank was robbed at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, and the armed robber took an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured.

Wednesday's robbery was the third in Manatee County in the last week. The robberies do not appear to be related.

A man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Palmetto bank at about 2:15 p.m. last Friday. The robber of the Wachovia Bank at 1510 Cortez Road W. is still at large. That robbery occurred at about 5 p.m. Aug. 22.
