A St. Petersburg police officer was arrested this morning on a charge of fleeing and eluding police, Pinellas Park Police Department Capt. Sanfield Forseth said.
About 1 a.m. today, Lee Forman was driving a 1997 Pontiac at 55 mph on a stretch of Park Boulevard where the speed limit is 45 mph, Forseth said.
A sergeant spotted him, followed him for several blocks and tried to stop him.
Forman sped away at speeds reaching 70 mph, at one point driving through a red light, Forseth said. Police didn't pursue him. They stopped him later at Ninth Street as he tried to go east into St. Petersburg.
Forman passed a field sobriety test and was arrested on a charge of fleeing and eluding, Forseth said.
Forman, 25, has been released from jail.
