BROOKSVILLE - A Naples man driving through Hernando County had a blood-alcohol level more than five times above the legal limit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The patrol said 44-year-old Jerry Dean Grice was driving south on Interstate 75 Thursday evening, unable to stay in a single lane. After failing a field sobriety test, Grice was arrested and taken to jail.
About 90 minutes after he was initially stopped by the trooper, authorities said Grice provided a breath test sample of 0.441. Florida law considers a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 to be legally impaired.
Fearing alcohol poisoning, the trooper took Grice to a hospital. He was returned to the jail early this morning and charged with driving under the influence. He was being held on $500 bail.
